So, here you are, reading this. Maybe you’re wondering if we really need another piece about “getting into the holiday spirit.” I get it. The holiday season can feel like a parade of forced cheer and overdone sentimentality. For some of us, myself included, it can even bring out our inner “Scrooge.” 🎄 Bah humbug, right?
The truth is, the holiday spirit doesn’t come naturally to everyone. Maybe it feels overrated, or maybe past experiences have left a sour taste. Loneliness plays a big role too. You might even feel it in a room full of loved ones, asking yourself, “Why don’t I feel the same?” or “I’ll be glad when it’s over.”
For me, finding a sense of belonging has always helped. I’ll admit, I often think I don’t have the perfect “network” or that it doesn’t meet my expectations. But every time I muster the courage to reach out, I’m reminded how much joy and connection it brings. It’s a reminder that while some moments feel temporary, the joy can still be real.
Take my example: I’m a gamer. I’ve been playing World of Warcraft for 20 years now, and when I log in, there’s always someone there, someone to chat with or share an adventure. It’s not traditional holiday cheer, but it’s my way of finding connection and transforming those “Scrooge” feelings into something positive.
Maybe gaming isn’t your thing, but I bet you’ve got something similar - little communities, hobbies, or routines that make the holidays feel a bit friendlier. It could be a book club, a crafting circle, or even your pets (yes, my cats feature heavily in my life and blogs 😺 - deal with it).
The holidays aren’t just about Christmas trees and carols. They’re about appreciating the small joys and connections in your life, whatever they look like. That’s why I’m so grateful for Totelly. This community has introduced me to amazing people and even helped me make a few lifelong friends.
Totelly exists to celebrate being human-to help us step out of our comfort zones (as scary as that can be) and build meaningful connections. And this year, we’re bringing that mission to life with the Totelly Christmas Exchange. It’s a holiday-themed offers and needs market - a safe, welcoming space to meet others, share some joy, and maybe feel a little less alone, even if just for a moment.
Come join me, Tanja, and the rest of the Totelly crew for a laid-back, heartwarming event. No obligations, no expectations - just you, your authentic self, and a bunch of merry humans sharing a moment of joy. Hope to see you there! 🎅✨
